December 9th - 13th

What Did Students Do This Week?

We had a fantastic field trip to the zoo on Wednesday! Thank you again to our parent volunteers who helped make this trip such a success! At the zoo, students made great connections to the learning they have done in the classroom. They connected to science, social studies, our class read aloud, and more!

Upcoming Week

This week will be a fun, festive time as Student Voice organized Spirit Days for the school. Please see the following Spirit Days:

Monday - Dress like Your Favourite Holiday Character Day

Tuesday - Silly Sweater Day

Wednesday - Dress to Impress Day

Student Quotes
  • "When I saw the wolves, it reminded me of the book A Wolf Called Wander. When I saw all the things the wolves were doing, it reminded me of what Wander would do in the book. Also, being able to see only one of the two Pallas Cats makes me think of how they're able to camouflage in their specific habitat." -EC
  • "I liked the penguins. I was thinking of their eyes and really wanted to know what they were looking at under water." -HP
  • "I really liked when the penguin was walking down; it looked like he was scared to getting in the water. This connects to the play we are doing in the Winter Concert." -AD
  • "I liked the Komodo Dragons because when they blink, their eyes go to the back of their heads. This is connected to the sensory organ, eyes. I liked the tortoises because they were eating lettuce and it's connected to our education because of the sensory organ, tongue." -GH
  • "I liked seeing the owls. When it's winter time, they can turn white to camouflage." -ZM
  • "I liked the owls and seeing all the dead mice and chicks. This reminded me of the sense of taste. The tigers reminded me of when Wander got separated from his family because it looked like one tiger was trying to get to the other one." -JH
  • "I liked seeing the owls and their eyes. They can see everything at all times because their heads can go 270 degrees. That connects to their sensory organ of the eyes. I liked seeing the little turtles and it was connected to our learning because most of the plants were decomposing just like our science experiment." -BA
  • "I liked when the wolves were walking near the glass. It reminded me of when Swift was lost and he kept walking." -AM
  • "I liked the giraffes because they were using their tongues to grab the food and it reminded me of the sense of taste. Also, the lemurs remind me of touch because they grab to climb." -EY
  • "I like seeing the owls and the dead chicks because it reminded me of the food chain. The tigers reminded me of Wander when he wandered all around the forest like the tigers were." -KW
  • "I was surprised when I heard that the Silverback Gorilla could lift a hippo and an SUV. I liked seeing the monkeys use their long arms to climb." -BO
  • "I never knew that the Komodo Dragon could eat a water buffalo. I thought it was cool that the White-Handed Gibbins are nocturnal." -MA
  • "I like seeing the flamingoes and their eyes. They were a bright yellow and it looked to me like they could see in the dark. I'm surprised the White-Handed Gibbins were playing around because they usually sleep during the day because they're nocturnal." -PM
  • "The Pallas Cat has very good balance and can see in the dark." -LD
  • "The monkeys' fingers poked out so far so they could climb." -OY
  • "I enjoyed that we got to see the wolves run around like Swift." -HB
  • "When the wolves were running around, it reminded me of Swift." -HD
  • "The wolves reminded me of when we learned about the sensory organ of touch because they were following the path but weren't looking down." -HTB
  • "When we were at the zoo, I saw Komodo Dragons and giraffes. I wrote about them and their sensory organs in my independent slideshow." -LK
